Last month, I borrowed a book from the library of the Alliance Française de Bangkok where I studied French language. This book titled “Christian Lacroix : Histoire de Mode.” It was such a beautiful book featured fashion illustrations by the iconic French designer, Christian Lacroix. The book is in French language so I couldn’t read much, just yet. However, I was inspired by his artwork and I decided to do a series of video tutorials on my Patreon about how to draw fashion figures like his style.
Lacroix is not only famous for his couture fashion house but he is known for his signature illustration styles as well. The organic brush strokes and the dramatic use of shapes and forms in his drawings are just fabulous! From the book, I noticed that the artworks were actually drawn on Procreate! I recognized some of the brush textures in the drawings. So, in the exclusive tutorials, I curated the brushes that were already in the Procreate program and I also created additional ones for the patrons to use. Take a look at some of the drawings I did from the tutorials.
I think that this style of drawing is quite fun and easy to do, even for the beginners. What you need to have are some fundamental figure drawing techniques to get started. Here is the tutorial of how to draw fashion figures (gesture drawing) that works well with this style of drawing. This video is part of the four video tutorials on this subject on my Patreon channel. Let me know what you think. Have fun drawing! 👩🏻🎨
